Athletics and Physical Education are critical elements of North Shore's philosophy of educational excellence. All students at North Shore, from entering Junior Kindergarteners to high school seniors, participate in physical education classes as part of their regular schedule. Our students also learn the lessons of competition and playing to win within the boundaries of rules and sportsmanship.

Middle School students have abundant opportunities to participate in both individual and team sports. Students must participate in one sport per year. They are encouraged to experiment by participating in a sport they may not have tried before. The Middle School fields interscholastic teams in boys and girls soccer and basketball, co-ed teams in track and field and baseball, football for boys and field hockey and volleyball for girls.

In the Upper School, we field more than 25 interscholastic teams in both boys and girls sports, including soccer, football, basketball, field hockey, baseball, tennis, volleyball and track and field. Our teams have recently won conference championships in football, field hockey and boys and girls track and field.

Our unique approach to athletics is particularly apparent in the Upper School, where virtually every student who attends practices and participates actively is able to play on a team. This limited-cut policy - and our requirement that students must play at least one team sport each year enables all students to develop individual skills and learn the lifelong lessons of teamwork and sportsmanship.
