|Athletics and physical education have been integral parts of a North Shore education since the School was founded in 1919. All students in junior kindergarten through high school participate in physical education classes learning lessons of competition and playing-to-win within the boundaries of rules and sportsmanship.|
Participation in the interscholastic athletics program is required from 6th through 11th grades. The Middle School offers boys’ and girls' soccer and basketball, co-ed teams in track and field, and baseball, football for boys, and field hockey and volleyball for girls.
In the Upper School, there are more than 25 interscholastic teams in both boys’ and girls’ sports, including soccer, football, basketball, field hockey, baseball, tennis, volleyball, and track and field. Our teams have recently won conference championships in football, field hockey, and boys' and girls' track and field.
|North Shore competes in the Independent School League (ISL) of the greater Chicago area. The ISL includes North Shore, Latin, Woodlands Academy, Willows Academy, Elgin Academy, Francis W. Parker, University High, Northridge Prep and Morgan Park Academy. While most of our contests are with ISL schools, many of our teams play local public and parochial schools too. In addition, we belong to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) which sets interscholastic competition guidelines for members schools and organizes state tournaments for varsity teams.|
