John Almquist Gallery

The John Almquist Gallery is a professional exhibition space on campus. Three shows are curated each year featuring the work of students, faculty, alumni and visiting artists. The gallery is a unique teaching tools that enhances our JK-12 visual art curriculum and strives to share a diverse selection of art forms. As a cultural force, the John Almquist Gallery broadens an individual's understanding of art and is an invitation to heighten students' global perspective.

Threads of Resistance : Chilean Arpilleras
October 2, 2015 - The Almquist Gallery presents, "Threads of Resistance : Chilean Arpilleras," Marjorie Agosin's arpillera collection. Marjorie is a Chilean-born American poet, writer, human rights activist and professor at Wellesley College.

We Are Stars
March 13, 2015 -- The Almquist Gallery presents "We Are Stars," curated by Lower School Art Teacher Montserrat Alsina, highlights works by artists of Esperanza Community Services.

Art and the Prison State
January 16, 2015 -- The Almquist Gallery presents "Art and the Prison State," highlighting local artists' responses and expressions of many pertinent questions surrounding our nation's prison-industrial complex.

Community Creatives
October 10, 2014 -- The Almquist Gallery presents "Community Creatives," a celebration of imaginative objects crafted by North Shore Country Day School faculty & staff.

Reclaimed Realities
March 14, 2014 -- The Almquist Gallery presents the art exhibit opening "Reclaimed Realities" featuring works by Marci Rubin and Betsy van Die.

January 13, 2012 -- The Almquist Gallery will host the art exhibit opening "Chicago Types: Modern, Traditional and Avant-Garde Typographic Design from The City That Works."

December 8, 2011 -- Creators purchased clockwork kits for $10 and were given one month to make a clock structure using found objects or original art. Gallery visitors bid on their favorite clocks through a silent auction. More than $1,700 was raised which will be used to purchase art supplies for our partner schools in Oaxaca, Mexico and Moshi, Tanzania.

October 1, 2010 -- The gallery opening for the exhibit "Shared Visions: Collaborative Work of the Chicago Art Salon" will be held Friday in the Almquist Gallery. The exhibit features the work of Atkas, Blietz, Coulson, Honey, Lloyd, Potocki and Sindler.

October 28, 2008 -- Parents, students, faculty and friends are invited to attend a gallery opening featuring the work of British Artist-in-Residence Bob Royston in the Atrium Gallery of the Conant Science Center.

Almquist Gallery Exhibit: "Mining Diamonds"
January 9, 2007 -- "Mining Diamonds" will open Friday in the North Shore Country Day School Almquist Gallery. The exhibit will display paintings done by artists Barbara Fitzpatrick, Mark Krisco and Levi Smith.

Almquist Gallery Opening: "Art Building Community"
