The culture I would describe at school is one of a small but strong family. I truly believe I have made friends for life at North Shore. The small community forces you to interact with all your classmates. While this might be initially uncomfortable, I believe you can only grow as an individual by putting yourself outside your comfort zone. This tight-knit community is encouraging and positive with contributions from both faculty and students. The students at North Shore have always been kind and welcoming and made my transition from my old school to North Shore feel fun and less stressful.
A leadership role I have taken on is being captain of the soccer team in my senior year. I had been playing soccer at NSCD since 6th grade and each season was something I looked forward to each school year. I knew that wearing the captain's armband was an important responsibility, but didn't mean any special privileges. I learned that being a captain means that you always have to bring your best and encourage the same out of your teammates. No matter what kind of day you had, or what score you got on your test when it came time for practice or a game, you had to put everything else behind you.
