The North Shore Country Day athletics program enriches the lives of our students through full participation and excellence in sports. Central to our community, our athletics program, embraces and celebrates the personal best effort of every student.
There is a place for all athletes in the sport of their choice regardless of skills or ability in our no-cut environment. Students in grades 6 through 11 are required to participate in a sport. Athletics provides students an opportunity for exploration that allows them to build relationships across grade levels, try something new, improve their skills, boost confidence and be a part of a team.
Inspite of the value of participation, we push all our athletes to seek personal and team excellence. In most of our sports we evaluate and place athletes in levels of competitiveness appropriate to their background, ability and interests. In middle school, the emphasis is on the fundamentals of sports so they can build on that in upper school. In upper school JV or freshman levels, we have more equal playing opportunities to encourage individual growth and development. At the upper school varsity level, a primary goal is to place as high as possible in our conference and state competitions.
Despite its small size, NSCD consistently punches above its weight in high school athletics, leading the way in individual and team conference and state titles compared to other private schools of its size in the Chicago area. Highly competitive teams at North Shore Country Day include Boys Golf, Girls Field Hockey and Boys and Girls Soccer. Many graduates also continue on to play sports in college at both the Division I and Division III levels.
