Gray skies couldn’t dampen Raider spirit as North Shore Country Day hosted its first-ever Spring Sports Extravaganza, immediately following Grandparents and Special Friends Day on Friday, May 2. Organized by the Parents’ Association Athletic Council, the afternoon brought the entire JK-12 community together for a celebration of athletics, Raider pride and family fun.
“We really wanted to bring the whole school together, along with grandparents and other extended family, to showcase our new athletic facilities and celebrate our outstanding student athletes and our Athletic Department as a whole,” explained Athletic Council co-chair Jessica Shinn, who helped organize the event. “The Athletic Council, as a part of the Parents' Association, is really focused on bringing families together to support this important aspect of the NSCD experience.”
Chilly, rainy conditions in the morning meant a few quick pivots — most notably, inflatable games were moved indoors, which quickly transformed the Mac McCarty Athletic Center into a hub of energy and laughter. Up in the lounge, students and their families, including grandparents and special friends, enjoyed a photo booth and concessions, while middle schoolers competed in a spirited Mario Kart tournament.
Outside, the Kona Ice truck offered a sweet (and free!) treat, and the sun came out just in time for fans to cheer on the varsity baseball and girls soccer teams as they faced off against Leyden and Highland Park high schools respectively.
“There was something for everyone, and we couldn't be happier with how the event turned out,” added Athletic Council co-chair Stacy Ackley. “It was a true team effort between Athletics, the Athletic Council, the development office and the marketing and communications team, highlighting how special this JK-12 community truly is. We hope everyone had a great time.”
