Blazing Speed: Raiders Shine at Top Times Meet

North Shore Country Day’s track and field team had a historic night at the Illinois Top Times Meet on March 28, as Brian Smith ’25 and Reese Meyers ’26 delivered standout performances against the toughest competition in the state.

Brian set a 1A state record in the 400-meter, cementing his place in Illinois high school track history. He also ran personal bests in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, making it a night to remember.

Reese added to the excitement, shattering the school record in the indoor 400-meter with a blazing time of 1:00.23, finishing sixth overall. She also improved on her 200-meter performance from last year’s meet, showing her continued growth as a sprinter.

“I have taken Raiders to this meet for over 20 years, but we have never had a night like that!” remarked Athletic Director Patrick McHugh.

The Top Times Meet serves as Illinois’ indoor state championship, and this year’s 1A competition was the most competitive in recent memory. Qualifying alone required elite-level times, making Brian and Reese’s performances even more impressive.

Brian’s success wasn’t limited to Top Times. Earlier in the week, he competed in the Adidas National Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 400-meter championship division. Seeded 28th out of 52 runners, he shattered his ranking finishing eighth overall, breaking the school record and breaking the 50-second barrier indoors with a time of 49.77. That mark stands as the eighth-fastest indoor 400-meter time by any Illinois high school sprinter this season and one of the fastest ever recorded by a 1A athlete.

Congratulations to Brian and Reese on their remarkable achievements.
