Coach Rashid Smith Earns 200th Career Win

North Shore Country Day boys varsity basketball head coach Rashid Smith reached a major career milestone on January 3, earning his 200th win at the Hiawatha Holiday Basketball Tournament.

“This afternoon we have the privilege of recognizing someone who has made an extraordinary impact on our athletic program and our community,” said Head Coach Patrick McHugh. “Since taking over as our head boys varsity coach in 2010, Coach Rashid Smith has led this team with consistency, integrity, and a relentless commitment to excellence.”

With the tournament win over winter break, Smith quietly reached the milestone at a time when few were on campus to see it.

“That number represents far more than wins on a scoreboard,” Patrick said. “It reflects years of preparation, countless hours in the gym and a belief in young men that extends well beyond basketball.”

Smith’s impact also includes historic achievements for the program. “In 2012, he became the only boys basketball coach in our conference to ever lead an ISL team to the state finals — a testament to his leadership, vision and ability to bring out the best in his players when it mattered most,” Patrick continued.

Patrick closed his remarks by thanking Smith for his lasting contributions to the school community. “Coach Smith, thank you for setting the standard, for representing this program with pride and for everything you continue to give to our school.”
