North Shore Country Day’s Model UN program opened its 2026–27 season with high aspirations, its largest preseason camp to date and a new service initiative connecting the team’s global focus with local action.

Twenty-five new delegates ended their summer break early to hone their public speaking, strategic thinking and negotiation skills, while two dozen experienced team members facilitated training sessions and led mock committees. At the family kickoff event, delegates and their families also collected school supplies and packed backpacks for children of refugees and asylees in the Chicago area.

Partnering with Live+Serve Director Drea Gallaga, the team worked with Refugee Community Connection, a grassroots mutual aid group supporting refugees and asylees. 

“It’s a local organization that helps fill gaps that government and social service agencies can’t cover,” Drea said. “In partnership with their annual back-to-school program, we filled 32 backpacks with school supplies for local high school students. We thought it would be great to bring ‘Live and Serve’ to our outstanding Model UN program, allowing its active members to show leadership by taking local action on a global issue.”
During the two-day minicamp, new delegates put their training into practice through a mock conference, gaining experience before the team begins competition this fall.

"Our minicamp prepares new delegates for the coming year in MUN, helping them develop valuable skills and gain experience before they compete against other schools,” Secretary General Nikash Bawa ’27 explained. “The MUN minicamp continues to be one of our most important events, and we are glad to continue it in the coming years!"

NSCD MUN enters the season looking to build on a successful 2025–26 campaign that included four team delegation awards and 61 individual awards earned by 26 Raider delegates. The team also placed 11th at the Georgetown North American Invitational Model United Nations Conference, widely recognized as a national championship event. 

Competition begins in October, when 44 delegates will travel to Carl Sandburg High School. The team heads to Stanford University in early November, followed by conferences at Yale, Georgetown and Northwestern later in the season. In early May, the upper school team will host its annual middle school Model UN conference, giving future Raider delegates an opportunity to experience MUN firsthand.
