Winter Season Brings Program Milestones

By Patrick McHugh, Athletic Director

This winter delivered a record-setting basketball season and standout performances across programs.

The season was highlighted by a historic run from the girls varsity basketball team, which advanced further than any team in school history in the IHSA State Tournament. The Raiders finished 17-7, capturing both a regional title and the program’s first-ever sectional championship before advancing to the super-sectional round, where they fell to Rockford Christian.

The team was led by ISL First Team selection Leila Kvamme ’28, ISL Second Team honoree Reese Meyers ’26 and ISL All-Conference Honorable Mention Raegan Murphy ’29. Leila also earned Special Mention All-State honors, capping an exceptional season.

The boys varsity team also turned in a strong performance, finishing 16-12 — the program’s highest win total since the 2015-16 season. Led by ISL First Team selection Kaeden Ackley ’27 and ISL Second Team honoree Quentin Tao ’26, the Raiders successfully defended their title at the Hiawatha Holiday Tournament, where Kaeden earned All-Tournament honors.

Winter track and field continued its upward trajectory, boasting its largest roster in more than a decade. Devin Todd ’27 set a new indoor school record in the high jump, while Reese Meyers ’26 broke indoor records in the 200, 300 and 400 meters. Reese also placed fifth in the 400 meters at the Top Times Meet, widely regarded as Illinois’ indoor state championship.
