Upper School History/Social Studies Position
North Shore Country Day School, a JK-12 independent school near Chicago, seeks a dynamic, full-time Upper School teacher for the 2019-20 Academic Year. We will particularly value candidates who bring past experience teaching World History. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.
While a bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred. Additionally, we seek candidates with three or more years of experience, a demonstrable talent and passion for teaching history/social studies to Upper School students, and a deep commitment to developing their students’ skills as readers, thinkers and writers. Ideal candidates will be believers in and cultivators of the ‘growth mindset,’ excellent written and oral communicators, collaborative and valued colleagues, and life-long learners who are committed to their ongoing professional development.
Additionally, we will value candidates who have invested in growing their intercultural competencies and whose teaching practice reflects those understandings and skills both inside and outside the classroom. Finally, because North Shore has a 1:1 program 6th-12th, candidates should be skilled integrators of 21st century technology into their teaching practice.
Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter specific to the role at North Shore Country Day School, a resume, a written statement detailing their philosophy/approach to their work, and a listing of professional references (it is helpful to know the context in which the reference worked with the candidate and have both email and phone contact information for each reference).
