Middle and Upper School Choral Director and Music Teacher
North Shore Country Day School, a JK-12 independent school in near suburban Chicago, seeks an outstanding Middle and Upper School Music Teacher and Choral for the 2019/20 Academic Year. While a bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree in music or music education is strongly preferred. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.
The incoming teacher will be responsible for leading the choral music programs in the Middle and Upper Schools as well as teaching general music and music theory courses across the two divisions. Additionally, she/he will work with Performing Arts Department colleagues to develop and support a number of student performance opportunities throughout the year. Depending on the background and experience of the person hired, this could include serving as the music director for the annual Upper School Spring Musical.
For this role, we seek candidates with three or more years of teaching experience, a demonstrable talent for teaching music to accomplished singers/musicians as well as beginners, and a strong vision for growing a dynamic vocal music program. Ideal candidates will be advocates for students, believers and cultivators of the ‘growth mindset,’ excellent written and oral communicators, collaborative and valued colleagues, and life-long learners committed to their ongoing professional development.
To be considered, please forward a letter of interest and educational philosophy, resume, and a listing of references to firstname.lastname@example.org.
North Shore offers competitive salaries that are commensurate with experience. Additionally, North Shore provides an excellent employee benefits program, including health and retirement benefits, tuition support for children’s attendance at North Shore, and professional development funding to support summer study, attendance at conferences/workshops, travel, and advanced degree work.
