College Counseling at North Shore is a very personalized experience. With a counselor to student ratio of about one to 25, our two counselors help students identify and apply to colleges and universities that best match their needs and aspirations.
College counselors work with students and their families throughout high school to make academic and co-curricular choices, however the college search truly takes off in December of the 11th grade year. Following a “College Night” workshop, counseling becomes very individualized and students and families are able to develop rapport and trust with counselors. Through the process, students complete self-assessments, develop key criteria for the search, discuss college visits, and develop plans for testing, summer experiences and senior curriculum. Group sessions on interviewing techniques, essay writing, testing strategies, and application completion are also offered. The college counselors serve as advocates, empowering students to drive their own college search as well as develop vital decision making and communication skills.
