Robert A. Jones '55 (1996)

It is a privilege for me to introduce Robert Jones of the class of '55. Bob is the 1996 recipient of the Francis R. Stanton Alumni Recognition which is presented each year to an alumnus whose life exemplifies the School's motto "Live and Serve."

After graduating from North Shore, Bob received his Bachelor's degree from Middlebury College and MBA from Northwestern. His professional reputation developed first at Bank of America in 1969, where he authored the bank's weekly financial newsletter. He was appointed Vice President and Director of Financial Forecasting for the prestigious firm of Chase Econometrics, a division of Chase Manhattan Bank. He authored numerous articles for trade journals and magazines as well as authoring Power of Coinage, a book on the U.S. financial structure and related monetary theory. He is the founder and chairman of Market News Service, Market Broadcasting Corporation, Jones International, and the founder and chairman emeritus of MNIS International.

MMS International, under Bob's leadership, pioneered the worldwide distribution of on-line economic and financial forecasts supplying analytical information to over 20,000 institutional clients, central banks, and governments as well as thousands of individual investors. Bob is a recognized authority on monetary policies and in 1990 was cited by the Institutional Investor as the top economic forecaster in the United States.

Bob is also founder and chairman emeritus of Geonomics Institute at Middlebury College. The Institute is a non-profit organization which, in a non-ideological setting, brings together the world's foremost economists, business leaders and government officials to create policy initiatives aimed at improving global living standards. In recent years, the research and consulting activities of the Institute have focused on Russia and the other Republics of the former Soviet Union and have assisted in the development of central banking policies and Russian business legislation.

As an expert on monetary affairs, Bob is a frequent lecturer at colleges and universities and has given testimony before the U.S. Congress.

North Shore can be justifiably proud of Bob's considerable contribution to global economics. I am pleased to present the Francis R. Stanton Alumni Recognition to Bob Jones.
