Deborah Vainder Edidin '67 (2000)

Deborah Vainder Edidin is an accomplished physician noted in the field of pediatric endocrinology and diabetes. After her graduation from North Shore Country Day School in 1967, Deborah attended Vassar College and received her BA. at the University of Chicago with honors and her M.D. from the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine, University of Illinois. She completed her residency at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in the Department of Pediatrics. 
She was also a Fellow in the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics, Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. Deborah's medical career has been distinguished by many medical appointments that range from Physician Consultant to the National Institutes of Health to Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at Northwestern University Medical School to Head, Division Pediatric Endocrinology at Evanston Hospital to Director of Clinical Diabetes at Children's Memorial Hospital. She is currently the President of Pediatric Endocrine & Diabetes Specialists.

Deborah is widely published and has been active in research efforts related to growth hormone treatment and diabetes. She was listed in Best Doctors in America from 1995-1998. Her honors include a Michael Reese Research Fellowship, an American Diabetes Association Research Award and being named a Jenny Singer Fellow. Her impact in the field of diabetes is well recognized and highly respected.

A commitment to serve others has been a hallmark of Deborah's medical career. She has served as Camp Physician for the American Diabetes Association; Medical Director of the ADA Youth Camp; Member, Genetic and Metabolic Screening Subcommittee of the State of Illinois Screening Program; and Member, Medical Advisory Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. In addition, Deborah has participated for several years in the Pilsen Community Health Fair and has traveled to Rwanda, Armenia and Guyana to provide critical medical intervention.
