Food Education

Just as we strive to see our students as "whole children," North Shore is committed to understanding food holistically—as something we eat and learn about, and as something that builds community.
We have embarked on a food transformation that will ultimately enable our students to understand food from many angles. Each grade is responsible for planting, tending and growing a garden. Our foodservice provider, HandCut Foods, provides meals in the cafeteria that are responsibly sourced, seasonal foods made from scratch in small batches. In the classroom, students learn about farm-to-table principles and develop a global, local and personal understanding of food, food systems and food justice.
North Shore Country Day School is a junior kindergarten through 12th grade, college-preparatory school founded in Winnetka, Illinois in 1919.  With rigorous academic pursuit as the cornerstone, North Shore provides many opportunities for all students to excel – in the classroom and the laboratory, on the stage and the playing field, in their communities and beyond.
