Merle C. Chambers '64 (1999)

Merle Catherine Chambers is a successful business-woman and a true philanthropist. After her graduation from North Shore Country Day School in 1964, Merle received her B.A. in political science from the University of California at Berkeley, a J.D. from the University of California's Hastings College of Law, and a tax law degree from the University of Denver. Merle Chambers owned and managed a successful transportation business and a large, independent oil and gas company. Merle thrives on challenges, not only on the challenges of running a business, but on personal challenges as well. She was the third woman to reach both the North and South Poles. Through Merle's philanthropic endeavors and various foundation board positions, she directs millions of dollars each year to non-profit organizations assisting women and children.
Of Merle's many and varied endeavors, her role as a philanthropist stands out as a model for us all. She created Chambers Family Fund, a charitable foundation, to provide philanthropic support for the early care and education of children, girls' futures and women's economic self-sufficiency. In addition to grant-making nationally and in Colorado, the foundation gives back to the states where her family business maintained significant oil and gas operations. Chambers Family Fund has established women's foundations in Wyoming and Montana, significantly increasing philanthropic support of organizations serving women and girls. Her conviction that women and girls should be able to realize their full potential led her to establish scholarships for women and girls at several schools and universities. She is also an avid supporter of the arts.

The North Shore Country Day School proudly presents the 1999 Francis R. Stanton Alumni Recognition to Merle C. Chambers, Class of 1964.
